Best Practices for Tooltips in Data Visualizations from Opattern
Many data visualization style guides do not include meaningful guidance for interactive behavior. Opattern is a useful exception with a focused section on tooltips.
The guide explains what tooltips are for, how they should be used, and where they can add value. It also encourages teams to consider richer tooltip content, including color and imagery, instead of relying only on plain text.
The strongest reminder is that critical information should not live only in a tooltip, because users may never hover or interact long enough to see it.
